Counselling

I’m a warm and non-judgemental therapist offering my knowledge of counselling and therapy to help you work through whatever you bring to our counselling sessions.  I am led by your needs, believing that given the right conditions we can identify your worries and concerns together.  I can help you to learn more about a yourself, focus on the issues you want to resolve and in doing so you will find you already hold the answers.

I am an integrative counsellor, this means I bring several forms of therapy together. These models include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) , person-centred therapy and psychodynamic therapy.

I have expertise in Bereavement Counselling work and Couples Counselling work.

BEREAVEMENT THERAPY
The bereavement counselling one to one sessions, offer a safe and confidential space for clients who have experienced loss and the challenges of grief.  With my training skills I will be able to offer guidance with an  understanding about grief and I can offer developing strategies about how to adapt life, without a loved one.

One to one therapy sessions can help with:
VALIDATING FEELINGS: The intense emotions connected to grief
NEW PERSPECTIVES: Helping to talk about the person, the loss and separating grief from trauma:
PROVIDES PRACTICAL SUPPORT:  Managing difficult moments, for example remembering the loved one at specific times, anniversaries, places etc
REDUCE ISOLATION:  Connecting with others who understand, peer support groups

COUPLES THERAPY:
At times a challenging relationship with a partner can be the hardest thing, but at the beginning of the relationship the communication may have been strong and you were able to connect with ease, so why did it change?  My role would be to help you both to understand why changes happen in a relationship and to find a way to get back to the relationship you both wish for.

Couples therapy sessions can help with;
IDENTIFYING PATTERNS: Recognising negative behaviours and understanding the roots
REFRAME THE ISSUE: Not blaming one person but viewing the relationship as the client
DEVELOPING SKILLS: Learn to negotiate, compromise, communication needs, understanding one others perspectives
HEALING WOUNDS: Safe place to address trust issues, infidelity, emotional damage

Sometimes it’s difficult in life to prioritise ourselves, especially when time is needed in order to workout how you feel about things.  I can offer you the space to explore in a healthy way, for you to reflect and consider what is right for you.  At times in our lives, change is necessary and sometimes wished for. Change can come in many different forms but it’s the one and only element of life we can be sure of change will happen.   Throughout our work I can offer you support as you cope with presenting issues and uncertainty about your future ahead.  If you feel you’ve reached a  crossroad in your life, feeling overwhelmed , stressed or unhappy, your events from the past may mean you are not aware those experiences are causing problems with feelings today.

Exploring and talking through personal history, relationships and beliefs will help you with your self awareness and see how those maybe affecting your life currently.  My aim is to help you to find a pathway to unravel what has happened in the past and how to move forward.  Therapy work does not focus only on blaming other’s or dwelling but finding an acceptance, working on yourself and gaining the ability to make independent decisions for the future.

I am an experienced couples counsellor and I can offer a non judgemental approach throughout our sessions, allowing space for each person to speak openly and honestly about what you wish to share in a respectful way.  Moving forward to find a pathway of communication between you and what you wish for the future ahead.
